Viscum mistletoe is a plant that grows outdoors attached to the branches of trees rather than in soil. It forms rounded green clumps high in host trees such as oak, apple, and poplar, drawing water and nutrients from them while still producing its own food through photosynthesis.
Because it depends on a living host tree, it is not suitable as a typical indoor plant and cannot be grown in a regular pot like most houseplants. In Kuwait’s climate, mistletoe would struggle unless attached to a well irrigated host tree, as extreme heat and dry air are not ideal for its growth.
The main function would be for decorative purposes. Mistletoe typically forms ball shaped clusters about 30–100 cm wide and can grow slowly, expanding a few centimeters per year. It is a long lived plant and can survive for 20–70 years if the host tree remains healthy. One interesting and well known use of mistletoe is its traditional role in celebrations, where it symbolizes peace and affection.
